[Solved] Charge adapter button

It would be extremely helpful if a single press of the button on the charge adapter would have the blinds open or close.  The only reason I'm contemplating buying more of these is I don't want to be tethered to a device whenever I want to put the shades up or down.  I like that the button is there and allows an external way to reset the system.  However, I think it would be far more useful if the button would change the blind state.

Hi @cjust,

This isn't exactly what you are asking for but it is a solution I put in place.  I have my blinds connected to the Smartthings hub.  I picked up a Smartthings button ($14.80 on Amazon) and now with a single press all my blinds open and with a double press all my blinds close.  It's a lot easier than pulling out my phone, starting the app, and making the change I want.

Just a thought.

Good suggestion @mythtook.   I have an identical setup at my home 🙂

@cjust also another good suggestion.  We could possibly change include/exclude to 3 button pushes and make a single push toggle between open and closed.

Keep the good ideas coming!!!

@mythtook, Yes I could do something like that.  I have a similar button for another purpose.  I'd really like to control individual windows though.  It would get pricey and add a lot of clutter to add one for each window.

@eric, Just to make sure we're on the same page... I'm not talking about the incl/excl button on the top of the motor.  I'm talking about the single button on the usb charger that is sticking out from the bottom of the blinds.  Currently, if you press and hold it for 5-10 seconds it does calibration.  I'd like a single push to toggle between open and closed.

Thanks for the responses!

@cjust, We are on the same page.   The USB Charge Adapter button currently serves as a dual purpose button.

1.  Hold for 5-10 seconds to launch calibration

2. Can be used for Z-Wave Include / Exclude.   If for any reason you need to exclude and include again you won't be required to remove the blinds from the window to access the button on the motor.   You can simply use the button on the charge adapter.  This was a suggestion we implemented from one of your Indiegogo crowdfunding users.

I really like the idea of adding a 3rd function to the button. A simple solution for manual control is something we have been thinking about for a while. I appreciate the suggestion.

Ah, cool.  I didn't realize that button already had two functions.  Thanks for the clarification!

Just curious, would a new function like this be firmware update-able?  Or would it have to go in a new unit?

@cjust.  Unfortunately, it would have to go in a new unit.  The current device does not support Over The Air (OTA) updates.

I agree.  I'd like a button to manually open or close blinds.  It's helpful when Alexa/Google/home controller are not cooperating.

@eric

Has this change been made in the currently shipping products?  If not, is there an ETA for this feature?

Thanks for a great product!

Maybe it's just me but I find it quite easy to adjust the blinds (I have 6 installed and awaiting another 5) via the home automation app (Vera Plus).  SUPER easy to install, include, and adjust via the app.  Now to get another 7 iblind kits.  Going to have to budget and stretch that out (mainly coincide with bundled specials).

With all that said, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IBLINDS.  Just wish I could have gotten them all when they first were released at the great low price.

For what it's worth - - I deployed Evolve LTM-15 Switches at each group of blinds and associated the blinds with that switch.  That way, even if your Z-Wave hub is down you can open/close the blinds with the touch of a switch.

I'm very interested in the addition of a manual open/close feature.  This is the only thing holding back my purchase of several kits. Is this something that is in the works? any ETA?

@rwenner

this sounds like a good solution, even more convenient than a button on the unit - could you provide more detail on how it is setup?

This has been implemented in the iblinds V3

To open/close the blinds, simply press once on the Charge Adapter. The blinds will open to the last open position.

To IN/EX, press the Charge Adapter 3 times in succession, the LED will blink to notify that you are in IN/EX mode.

To recalibrate, press and hold for at least 10 seconds, then release.

Thank you all for your suggestions!
